I am honoured to serve as volunteer Chair of the Greater Burnside Business Association (GBBA).
The GBBA, through its board, committees and volunteers, works hard to support businesses of all sizes and the 18,000+ employees who work in Greater Burnside - from the shores of the Bedford Basin throughout the Industrial Park, the City of Lakes Business Park, the Logistics Park and Dartmouth Crossing.
These are truly exciting times in Greater Burnside. Development continues to happen at a record pace. Dartmouth Crossing continues to expand with new restaurants, retail services and a future residential area. The Transportation industry carries on with the establishment of the Logistics park and distribution area. In Early September 2009, HRM Council approved the continuation of Burnside expansion through the Shubenacadie Lakes area along the 118 and Highway 107 Extension.
The success of our growing retail sector in conjunction with the wide range of businesses available throughout Burnside is a main reason why many head to Burnside to satisfy their needs.
We continue to advocate for Burnside. The GBBA hosts an annual roundtable meeting with HRM Councillors and Senior Staff. These meetings allow all participants to discuss openly, and without judgment, key issues that affect Greater Burnside including infrastructure maintenance, transportation and service improvements and future development. Businesses in Greater Burnside pay in excess of $36 million in property taxes and are a key driver of HRM’s economy.
But our work is not done! As we have watched our roadways widen, some new sidewalk development in older Burnside, and the infamous Pedway finally built, we continue to advocate for better Transit and safer pedestrian commuting. The GBBA is also committed to saving our industrial land – zoned areas that are few and far between - not only in Burnside, but also some of the only HRM owned land still available.
Why not become a part of the GBBA? Our monthly networking/educational events at the Park Place Ramada have more than quadrupled in size over the past year. These timely sessions are getting known around town as a great place to go to network.
The success of Burnside has a direct impact on your financial well being and your quality of life 8 to 10 hours a day, 260 or more days a year. Please take the time to join our Association and help grow your Greater Burnside into a Park that best meets our needs for the future – your voice is needed.
Email us at email@example.com and we will keep you up to date on public meetings, events and the issues we are facing.
I look forward to meeting you in the future.
